Dear Las Crucens, I sent you information a few months ago about El Paso Electric smart meters that will be installed in 2023-2024. A friend recently informed me that the City of Las Cruces is now installing smart meters on gas lines.
POTENTIAL HEALTH IMPACTS FROM SMART METERS
There have been many questions raised about potential negative health effects from smart meters. Here are a few links if you want to learn more about that:
Why Smart Meters Are Good for Utility Companies, Bad for Consumers https://childrenshealthdefense.org/defender/smart-meters-health-privacy/
The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies everything on the RF-EMF spectrum as a 2B “possible human” carcinogen.
Health effects of Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields (RF EMF) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6685799/
"Concerns about the potential vulnerability of children to RF fields have been raised because of the potentially greater susceptibility of their developing nervous systems; in addition, their brain tissue is more conductive, RF penetration is greater relative to head size, and they will have a longer lifetime of exposure than adults.” https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article-abstract/116/2/e303/62886/The-Sensitivity-of-Children-to-Electromagnetic
Physicians for Safe Technology state: “The abundance of peer-reviewed science showing harm coupled with obsolete radiofrequency safety guidelines that fail to address long-term health effects and non-thermal biological effects indicate that a precautionary approach is essential to reduce potential harm to the public and the environment.” https://mdsafetech.org/featured-page-one/join-mdsafetech-org/

OPTING OUT OF SMART METERS
The City of Las Cruces WILL allow people to opt-out of having a smart meter installed. NOTE: It may already be too late for some people to opt-out, since the City is already installing these devices. I contacted Customer Service for CLC Utilities and was told: "Customers choosing [to opt out] are billed a one-time setup fee of $76.90 and a monthly fee of $7.60, both of which are added to the utility bill."
You can download the Opt-Out form here:
You can Opt Out by emailing in the form to City of Las Cruces Customer Service here: CustomerService@lascruces.gov
I hope this is helpful information for keeping up-to-date on what is happening in Las Cruces. Standing with you in solidarity, Sarah Smith Free People of the Southwest (local) New Mexico Freedoms Alliance (statewide)
