Dear Las Crucens,
You may have heard the tragic news that Jonah Hernandez, a Las Cruces police officer, was murdered in the line of duty last weekend. Â Here are some ways you can potentially show support to his loved ones.
Fundraiser for Jonah's wife and two young children:Â https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-loving-memory-of-officer-jonah-hernandez
City of Las Cruces will be holding a candlelight vigil for Officer Hernandez on Friday 2/16 at 6pm at Albert Johnson Park (in front of Branigan library): https://library.las-cruces.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=14401 Â
As described by LC Police Chief Jeremy Story, the man who murdered Officer Jonah "had a long history of violent crime and mental illness. This is just one agonizing reminder of the brokenness of the New Mexico criminal justice system."Â Â
We need to push the City Council to take action to ensure this never happens again. Please attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday Feb 20th at 1pm to speak or show support for those who will be making public comments related to the ongoing crime issues in Las Cruces. The meeting will be at City Hall, 700 N Main St.
